My name is Rosie Gray and I am a KG Hypnobirthing teacher, birth and postnatal doula covering the Richmond, Chiswick, Twickenham and West London area. I am also a baby massage and baby yoga instructor, regularly teaching classes in Chiswick and St.Margarets.
I feel passionately that good antenatal, birth and postnatal support is an important foundation for a positive and empowering birth experience and this can bring long-term benefits to a mother and her family.
It has been proven that having a doula at your birth and in the postnatal period can:
Reduce the length of your labour * Half the chance of having a Caesarean section * Decrease the need for narcotic pain killers or an epidural * Lessen the likelihood of having an instrumental (forceps or vacuum) delivery * Make you far more likely to view the birth experience as positive * Increase the rate of successful breastfeeding * Decrease the likelihood of developing postnatal depression.
About Doulas
Doula is an ancient Greek word for ‘care giver’ but in todays terms is a companion who specialises in supporting a woman in her transition to motherhood. A doula provides practical, physical and emotional support so the mother feels safe and confident before, during and after the delivery. A doula does not replace a woman’s partner but works as part of a team to provide the best support possible.
I trained with Nurturing Birth and am certified by Doula UK and therefore abide by their strict code of conduct and philosophy.
About Me
Having had the wonderful experience of raising my own children, I felt drawn to wanting to help others in their transition to parenthood. I feel passionately that the right support can make all the difference in having a positive and empowering birth experience. My philosophy is one of nurture, care and encouragement, so that you feel relaxed and confident through birth and in the early weeks, with your precious new baby.
I have been a doula since 2011 and have been at over 400 births. My experience includes VBAC, caesareans, water births and twins. I qualified as a KG Hypnobirthing Teacher in 2012, training of which is accredited by the Royal College of Midwives and regularly run hypnobirthing courses in the Twickenham, Richmond and Kew area.
I am also a baby massage and baby yoga instructor and qualified and trained in the holistic treatments of Rezobo massage and Indian Head massage, which can be very beneficial treatments during pregnancy.
I joined the Birth Companions team in 2016, as a doula supporting women in prison giving birth. I hold Public Liability Insurance and I am DBS checked.
Doula Support
As a birthing doula my aim is that you go into your labour confident that you know what you want from your birth and that you have all the support that you need. As a post natal doula I provide continuous emotional and physical support during the early days, so that you can rest, relax and enjoy your baby.
‘’Rosie was our amazing doula. We were very lucky to have her by our side during Williams homebirth…her support, strength and encouragement throughout honestly contributed to our positive birth experience and I have also made a very special friend for life!’’
‘’Elsa is one today! It’s a whole year since you were there offering such amazing support at her birth. We look back on that day with such happiness and so much of that is down to your presence – keeping us calm, making us feel empowered and in control. Thank you.’’
‘’Thank you so much for your support in the lead up and to Milo’s birth and during labour, especially in the hospital where you took me in so swiftly and took over as my spokesperson when I really needed your confidence and directness with the midwives. Having your support gave me the confidence to have a really positive birth experience this time round. I’m so proud to have had such a straightforward labour and it’s made such a lovely start to our life with Milo’’
“I cannot thank you enough for your amazing support, kindness, laughter and willingness to be there every step of my marathon journey. I had confidence because you were there and could not have imagined it without you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
“Rosie was a wonderful support in the lead up and during the birth of my second child. She helped my husband and I prepare for the birth by introducing us to hypnobirthing. With the use of music, relaxation, visualisation and breathing techniques I was able to prepare for the natural birth I wanted. During my labour thanks to Rosie my husband felt empowered as he knew how to support me by encouraging me to remain calm and focused on my breathing. This meant that I felt fully supported emotionally. Having Rosie at the birth of my daughter provided us with confidence, strength and the support we needed resulting in a very special, positive experience for us both. Thank you Rosie.”
